My father became a resident at Venn House in 2020 (early in the pandemic). He suffered from dementia and had to make the transition from independent living to requiring 24 hour support in difficult circumstances. He was a resident for more than 2 years. Venn House staff were understanding, supportive and respectful of his wishes and demands.
He remained independently mobile and was allowed to wander throughout the building, engaging and refusing offers of help as he saw fit. He felt safe and in control of what he wanted to do. He liked his big airy en suite room which had a large window overlooking the car park, trees and entrance. He enjoyed watching the comings and goings and weather.
Venn very quickly became home. He felt comfortable, relaxed and content there and liked interacting with staff and residents when he wanted.
The inevitable restricted visiting for family was painful for us but the staff navigated this well with understanding and support.
